Jen's Room | FRECKLES | Jen's Lounge
Floating Hospital Talk | Lectures and Workshops
Because of the success of Jen's Room and FRECKLES, The Jen Di Reeno Foundation was approached by Tufts Medical Center regarding a new opportunity to support teen and young adult patients. We were all ears! A space had become available on one of the patient floors where Jen actually received treatment. Nursing and social work staff were excited about the prospect that this space could emulate an atmosphere similar to that of Jen's Room.
We recently entered the research and development phase for this space, to be named Jen's Lounge. Jen's Lounge will offer similar amenities to those offered in Jen's Room - plus - more interactive accessories such as a Nintendo Wii to offer patients some recreational time with other patients and visiting friends.
According to a recent article in the Boston Globe:
"Nathan Herz, an assistant professor in the occupational therapy department at the Medical College of Georgia...[stated that] while he found the Wii to be competitive with traditional therapy in several measures of mobility, he was most impressed by how much the Wii eased symptoms of depression in the patients while increasing their motivation.”
As we grow as a Foundation, we hope to keep abreast of advances in therapies that can help teens, young adults and their families heal from grief and loss so that we can incorporate them into our programming, like Jen’s Lounge. If you would like to hear more about the progress of the construction of Jen’s Lounge, or would like to get involved in the project, please contact the Program Committee Chair at programs@jendireeno.org.
